Bentwood furniture has been produced in Bystřice pod Hostýnem for 160 years. On the occasion of this anniversary, the book +- 160 Years is being published. It maps the history and significance for the development of modern furniture design on a global scale. It documents the fascinating birth and dynamic development of this revolutionary wood bending technology through the combination of historical facts with personal stories, famous names, iconic products, forgotten witnesses and little-known historical artefacts. The result is a visual and textual collage about the past, present and future of bentwood furniture in Bystřice pod Hostýnem.

About the author

Adam Štěch is a design, architecture and art theorist. He works as an editor in several prestigious publications including Dolce Vita, Domus, Wallpaper* and DAMN°, and teaches history of design at Scholastika, a tertiary-level design school based in Prague. In his work Adam often returns to the past and is most taken by Modernism and the period’s yet undiscovered interiors and designs.
